    Kontact error on login

    Hi all,

When I log out of my account, I don't shut down kontact for obvious reasons. But instead of nicely starting up the next time I log in, most of the time kontacts shows the following error window:

    Code:
Kontact already seems to be running on another display on this machine. Running Kontact more than once can cause the loss of mail. You should not start Kontact unless you are sure that it is not already running.
Then I need to press exit, wait a minute, and restart kontact. I do use two screen, one TFT and a TV, though they're configured as one Xinerama display, maybe that's part of the problem. Not that I see another kontact instance on the TV display. It happens almost every time, but not always, and I can't figure out what's different. I've had the same error occur a few times on my system at work as well (fedora core 6 with only one screen) though it's rare there. Any guesses what's causing this?

    P.S. I'm running kde 3.5.7 on kubuntu 7.10
    I.

    Re: Kontact error on login

If you're still having this problem> it's likely caused by Kontact being started by two separate processes - once it's started by KDE's session manager, which restores Kontact because you don't close it on shutdown, and second, by being set to start on every boot (this could be anywhere, most probably a link or .desktop file in ~/.kde/Autostart. Try setting Session manager NOT to restore session if it makes a difference. If it does, you can leave it like that or (if that's not acceptable) investigate what starts Kontact the second time.
