    Re: Confused: Adept vs Synaptic?

Personally I DESPISE Synaptic. It's clunky, clumsy, bizarre, and SLOW. It's also ugly by default (because GNOME is). Adept is far better IMHO. Bear in mind the difference between the 'proper' Adept (adept_manager), System > Adept Manager, and the Add/Remove Programs (adept_installer), the latter being a simplified version that does not show all the software. If I know exactly what I want to install, I'll just use apt-get (command line) though.
I am running Ubuntu 8.10 (yes Gnome) with upgrades applied daily about 0900 UK time. Hardware is Dell Precision 420, 2x 800 MHz PIII, 512 MB RDRAM, nVidia GeForce 6800 128 MB AGP graphics, 18GB SCSI and 500GB IDE HDDs, DVD burner, Hauppage TV card.
