    adept package manager buggy

Adept package manager worked for all of 30 minutes after a fresh install
Then proceeded to refuse to allow me to install software for the next hour.
If adept has 101 known bugs then switch to something that is more stable.
How the hell is someone coming from windows going to handle this
This is something you'd expect from a rc or beta not a final.
Put's a real dampner on the whole release date hype.
anyway I have a easy fix worked just fine for me.
    I switched to opensuse 10.3

    Re: adept package manager buggy

Why all the strong language and emotion? The forum is here to help people solve problems such as the one you had; I have never experienced that particular glitch, nor have I heard of anybody else experiencing it. The problem was more than likely that you had a corrupted configuration file located somewhere in your /root directory, which we would have helped you fix. Instead of freaking out and reacting the way you did, you should have just requested help.

      Re: adept package manager buggy

I've never had had any problems with Adept (Manager).
But in the last month or so, I've found I'm using apt-get more than Adept... Just that Yakuake makes it more convenient.

I haven't had any problems with Adept Manager in a long while -- since Edgy, maybe. I'm also tending to "apt-get" more of my packages, when I know for sure the name of the package I want. 8)

          Re: adept package manager buggy

The reason I was so emotional is that I installed Kubuntu 3 times and the same thing happened every time. I think Linux rocks. I recently got myself a Brother HL-2040 laser printer that runs on Linux so now I no longer need to run the windows virus to print. You guys are great and thanks. I'll give gutsy another try on a different machine.
          Cheers

I know this thread is a few days old but I have found myself in the same predicament as vhemi. After just a few uses of adept manager it was crashing on me. However I did find a bug report from the ubuntu forums https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...ept/+bug/48627 that describes it and offers up a CLI solution that repaired the issue for me. it is as follows

              1) open a konsole window
2 ) run the following code
              Code:
              dpkg --configure -a
Hope this helps anyone else having this issue with adept. For those who don't want to read the bug report it is still active and unresolved as of Gutsy Gibbon.

There are options (if something doesn't work (to you))

                Dpkg
dpkg - package manager for Debian.

                Apt
apt - Advanced Package Tool. APT is a management system for software packages.

                Aptitude
A highly configurable console front-end for Debian APT. Aptitude is a text-based interface to the Debian GNU/Linux package system.

                Adept
Adept is a GUI to the Advanced Packaging Tool for KDE. Adept is developed by Peter Ročkai and is sponsored by Canonical Ltd. through the Kubuntu project.

                Synaptic
Synaptic is a graphical package management program for apt. It provides the same features as the apt-get command line utility with a GUI front-end based on Gtk+.
