USB drives NOT mounting on Gutsy (I/O Error) help!!

    Hi everyone,

I've upgraded last week to Gutsy, but I'm having many problems with the USB devices (cameras and mp3 playes principally). I have a Olympus X-750 digital camera that I've used to connect easy in ubuntu Feisty, but un kubuntu Gutsy simply doen't work at all!!!, /var/log/messages always say this:

    Code:
    Nov 4 09:10:09 casa kernel: [ 947.052062] scsi 3:0:0:0: Direct-Access OLYMPUS FE190/X750 1.00 PQ: 0 ANSI: 2

My mp3 player do the same thing. Both was working fine un Feisty, and in Windows Vista that I have in another partition is working also.

I have searched in all forums, googled the issue, and no one seems to get a real response to this. ¿Maybe a kernel bug?.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

At some point through the upgrades, I got stuck with an unsupported ivman. I had some issues with usb mounting, and uninstalling ivman helped me. Not sure if it will help you

    See here, too

    Good luck!

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, ivman was not installed in my system, so the problem is another.

The closest response I've seen was somebody who downgraded the kernel to 2.4.20-26 (the Feisty version), but I'm suspect that doing that will broke many things. Maybe I'll wait for an kernel update, or back to Feisty until Gutsy gains stability.

      Thanks.

I am having the same problem. My Olympus C2100UZ worked fine on Feisty, but when I upgraded to Gutsy the camera is no longer found. Hope someone out there can solve the problem for us.

          Hi,

I had the same problem. I solved it by downgrading to 2.6.20, which was installed alongside the standard 2.6.22 with Gutsy. It didn't break anything except the nvidia driver for me, but then the only specially-built driver I was using was the nvidia one - and I got the nvidia driver working again by adding the right boot options.

The toughest bit was getting the linux-headers-2.6.20 deb for building the driver from scratch, but you can install the feisty version no problem:
          http://packages.ubuntu.com/feisty/devel/
(you'll need to grab the right version for your processor, obviously)

I don't know what differences there are between the two kernels, but I suspect you'll see very little if any in real terms.

In Gusty. Interestingly I had the same problem with two versions Olypus cameras FE220 and D590. But I didn't have this problem with a Kodak C713. I didn't have any problems with Fiesty.

For the Olympus I found that instead of connecting via the PC, I pressed the one for the printer it would connect and show the photos and you can download the pictures. The FE220 would disconnect every once in a while though.

The kernel in Gusty has been blamed for this issue and I hope they will have it fixed in the next distro.

Actually I discover it is an issue is not in the kernel but in KDE! The cameras work flawless in gnome on the same machine!
