Emptying the Wastebin

I created a Wastebin and stuffed a load of unwanted bits and pieces into it, among them were some "Keep" backups i no longer need.

Unfortunately when i empty the wastebin they're still stuck in the bottom and refuse to be deleted.

I would appreciate a hand to carry it out - it weighs over 6Gb.

I'm not too sure what happened, to be honest. I put it on a panel at the side of the desktop, rather than cluttering up the top right-hand corner (my main panel is at the top).

Everything else was deleted when i emptied it, except for these backups, and the <Empty Deleted Items Folder> is now greyed out.

I would try opening a command window in the folder and remove them with the rm command. So for example to remove a file called 'monkey' simply type
rm -i monkey
(the -i just gets you to confirm that you do want to delete this file, useful to make sure you don't mess things up when you are first trying out the command). If it tells you permission denied, well, you know what to do

Might also be worth trying a restart.

Also, just my thoughts on not having a trash can around. I personally remove the trash applet from the kicker. You can still right-click on files and send them to the trash. When you want to check the contents of it just direct konqueror to trash:/ to empty it then just right-click on the background of the konqueror window and select 'empty trash bin'.

Trash is hiding in:
/home/USER/.local/share/Trash/files/
/home/USER/.local/share/Trash/info/

USER is your log in name. You can remove file and info folders.

If you have more than one linux partition:
Look (if you have sda2 -> /media/sda2/.Trash-1000/)
/.Trash-1000/files/
/.Trash-1000/info/

Thank You all for the help, Very Much Indeed, i've managed to fix the problem.

The:
/home/USER/.local/share/Trash/files/
and
/home/USER/.local/share/Trash/info/
were both empty, so i fooled it by a simple <Restore> from the Wastebin, and then went to where they were and used <Shift + Delete>.

Incidentally - it weighed over 36Gb, not 6....

A lesson i won't forget.
