    [FIXED] stuck with old arts ? (how to force a package version downgrade)

    (UPDATE: this has been FIXED, see below...)

    Hi,

    I've been doing some post-upgrade cleanup. Oddly enough, it looks like two of my arts packages are unsupported (see screenshot). Their versions look weird too, like if they were a 7 KDE releases behind (3.5.1). Does this look broken ? Could someone else please what arts packages/versions they have installed ?

    Many thanks!

    Here (Gutsy, i386):

    Code:
    :~$ apt-cache show arts
    Version: 1.5.8-0ubuntu1
    Depends: libartsc0 (>= 1.5.8-0ubuntu1), libarts1c2a (>= 1.5.8-0ubuntu1)
    Code:
    :~$ apt-cache show libarts1c2a
    Version: 1.5.8-0ubuntu1
    Before you edit, BACKUP !

    Why there are dead links ?

      Thanks, oddly enough, I don't see any newer version. I think the way to go will be to uninstall arts (this will uninstall a few KDE packages), and then reinstall everything. I think the problem is that the newer version looks like "older" (it has a smaller version number).

      Thanks, again!

        Re: stuck with old arts ?

        Arrgg, if I remove the two stuck packages it will uninstall about all of kubuntu. Anyone knows a trick from the command line ? (I read the man page for apt-get, but I couldn't find a way to remove a package ignoring its dependencies). My idea would be to just remove the packages, and then install them again

        Thanks!

          Ok, I SOLVED it. From Synaptic,

          Code:
          [Menu] ->[Package]->[Force Version]
          I attached a few screenshots below in case it helps someone else. This info was very useful:
