    Konqueror stoped opening zip-files

When I double click on a zip-file in konqueror I would like it to be opened directly in konqueror as if it had been a folder. I had this behaviour earlier but at some point it started to open them in Ark instead.

I have tried to remove Ark from the system but that doesn't help.

If i manually enter "zip:///file.zip" in konquerors address bar it works correctly, but if I click on a zip-file or write "file:///file.zip" it invokes Ark.

    Any help is appreciated!

Do you have karchiver installed ?

Konqueror > Settings > Configure Konqueror > File associations (.zip) -> Embedding > Left Click Action: (Show file in embedded viewer) and Service Preference Order: KArchiver (karchiver_part)

Hmm... ok, I tried that just now, and sure it starts karchiver in embedded mode, but that doesn't help much. The embedded view doesn't behave lika a regular directory in konq at all. I can for example not even do drag and drop to unpack a file.

I want to get konqueror to use the zip kioslave that is allready present. The question is how. I have not managed to find any settings where I can tell konq to use a kioslave for certain file types.

      Any ideas?

      Thanks

Hmm - is this bug or progress ?.

In the Dapper (i have Dapper and Gutsy) you can drag and drop from konqueror (karchiver embedded).

In the Gutsy you can't drag and drop. There is extract button in the Konqueror toolbar instead of d&d.

For me it is not much progress. The functionality is obviously there in konqueror, it just need to be enabled again. Somehow...

Konq beaves perfectly right if I manually enter the zip-URL in the location bar, remember:

          zip:/path-to-zipfile/zipfile.zip

This works perfectly. Konq opens the zip file as a folder, and I can do drag and drop on it or anything else that one would expect from a regular folder.

But if I double click the zipfile directly konq does not understand that it should open it with the zip kio-slave. :-(

            Hmm...
Try this, if there's nothing on Konqueror's options:
Right-click on a zip archive > Properties > Wrench icon (or Settings > Configure Konqueror > File Associations > search for x-zip) > Add (under Application Preference Order). In the box, put "konqueror zip:%U".

Before trying this, find or create a zip archive, and ensure that the "zip:" is there. If it isn't, trying to open a zip archive will create an infinite number of Konqueror windows.

Unfortunately, this will create a new Konqueror window when you open a zip archive. Konqueror apparently doesn't have a --use option like Kate's.
            For external use only.

I'm surprised that KArchiver isn't installed by default - i installed it and didn't have to change those settings, but this is handy to know.

              It works flawlessly.

                Re: Konqueror stoped opening zip-files

                From FAQ
                http://www.kubuntu.org/faq.php

How do I change Konqueror back to the default KDE profiles?

Kubuntu comes with a simplified Konqueror profile to make things more user friendly compared to default KDE.
                and there =>

To enable Konqueror to open tar and zip files:

                rm -r /usr/share/kubuntu-default-settings/kde-profile/default/share/mimelnk/application/
                or just rename application-folder.

Now konqueror opens packed files and i can drag and drop from konqueror
