Have you tried to right click panel > Add new panel, Configure panel ?Before you edit, BACKUP !

Sand, Rog131 is right. go to the k menu and you will see the option of adding a new panel. Then later you can click again and configure it. I do have mine similar to gnome. I have the panel at the bottom set to tiny size, and another at the top. The one at the top is transparent and it hides after 1 second of not being use. I also have it in such a way that it only comes out if I take the mouse and go to the left corner of my comp screen. Last, I also have a navigational panel at the left of my screen that also hides after a second of not being use. You can do the same thing or more if you wish just by doing what Rog said.

marshallbanana is right, Now do not forget that once you are on the configure panel or the main window, you need to choose what panel you would like to hide. let me know how things went.
