    Mplayer - video lags behind sound

    Files that played perfectly before I upgraded (new avi files from the past few weeks which I'd watched before I upgraded) are now having issues with the sound and video being out of sync.

    I've experimented with several files from various sources and various audio settings, I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling mencoder and mplayer, and nothing has helped. Everything on my system was upgraded on Thursday when I installed Gutsy so all of the packages are up-to-date.

    I'm at a loss here.

    AMD/Athlon 64 Processor 3200+
    MSI K8T Neo Motherboard

    I'm using the sound setup built in to the motherboard.

    VLC Player has no issues. Neither does KMPlayer, oddly enough. It has to be software related, but I'm not seeing it.

    Maybe these help:

    mplayer --help:
    Basic keys: (complete list in the man page, also check input.conf)
    <- or -> seek backward/forward 10 seconds
    down or up seek backward/forward 1 minute
    pgdown or pgup seek backward/forward 10 minutes
    < or > step backward/forward in playlist
    p or SPACE pause movie (press any key to continue)
    q or ESC stop playing and quit program
    + or - adjust audio delay by +/- 0.1 second
    o cycle OSD mode: none / seekbar / seekbar + timer
    * or / increase or decrease PCM volume
    x or z adjust subtitle delay by +/- 0.1 second
    r or t adjust subtitle position up/down, also see -vf expand

    man mplayer:
    -delay
    audio delay in seconds (positive or negative float value)
    NOTE: When used with MEncoder, this is not guaranteed to work
    correctly with -ovc copy; use -audio-delay instead.

    Prefences > Audio -> More Audio delay:

    If you are using SMPlayer ("A great MPlayer front-end")

    Options > Preferences > Performance -> Synchronization
