Snowhog - this did not work for me. The owner, group, and permissions appear to be set correctly (for both bookmarks.xml and bookmarks.xml.bak), but I still get this error.

sudo chown david:david /home/david/.kde/share/apps/d3lphin/bookmarks.xml


I found the chown command explained here too as I did not know what the xxxxx section in the command was for:
