@Nivuahc if you can get compiz to run like that, don't Ctrl-C to stop it. Just leave the terminal open with compiz running, and do a normal shutdown/restart. That's how I used to get it to autostart before I found the ccsm package.

Well that's just it. I can get Compiz to start that way... it's just that the only thing it does, to my eyes, is load Emerald. There's a slight bit of animation with minimizing and maximizing plus there is a shadow under each open window. That's it.

No cube, no fancy bells and whistles, no anything.

If you can get it to run, and restart while it's running, you might find that ccsm will be installed -- that's what happened on mine. Then in ccsm you can set the characteristics of the cube, the wobbly windows, reflections, etc.

ccsm is installed but it fails when I try to run it, spitting out the error codes listed above.

And I tried starting Compiz in a terminal then restarting... nada

              Re: Compiz Fusion

Since we're on that subject, it seems the standard way of "loading compiz on startup" actually starts kwin first, then replaces it with compiz. Wouldn't it be possible to start compiz directly and avoid wasting time?

I had all of those installed but python-ctypes and python-elementtree. I installed them, just in case, same results.

                Thanks for trying, though.
