What button on what panel? You mean the web browser button on the task bar? Dolphin isnt a web browser, so Konq will always be there.

Other then that, the only time Konq comes up for me is when using the "Open in a new window" option on auto mount.

I sincerely hope that they remove the flie browser functionality from Konq (once Dolphin has proven stable), make it much less bloated.

You mean -- so that we wouldn't have a choice...

If you say so, Mr. Gates.

I think it's the ideal file-browser, but never use it for the web.

I actually think its quite the opposite, I think we lack choice right now, and this will bring back the choice we need.

Konq is many apps in one, and if you want just one of those apps, lets say the Web Browser, then you are forced to have all of the other components, even if you dont use them, or have need of them. That, if anything, is most definitely a Gates thing.

Choice would be to have Konq broken up into its parts. I.E. a Web Browser, a File Manager, etc...

Dolphin is one step closer to realizing this.

If I were to choose another file manager it still would not be Dolphin from what I've seen. I think that there are many other choices better than Dolphin-Rox-MC-XFe and more. The point is that there alot of choices out there.

Konqueror is actually a pretty lean application, it's just a kpart viewer of sorts...it uses other apps to provide the added functionality often referred to as 'bloat'. It doesn't, for example, have a built-in universal-viewer-for-everything, it just loads kparts of other apps if they are needed (if the user wishes it)...If you don't use the 'embedded viewer' for example, the functionality (you're not actually using) won't make konqueror any bigger or load bunch of stuff you don't need.

Or perhaps you mean something else with 'bloat'?

Re: How to change konqueror back to default file manager in 7.10

Bloat covers many more aspects then just that. You cannot, for instance, only install the 'parts' that you want to use, that gives added installation size. Also even though it doesnt load every part at once, its still loads more than is necessary for just the part it loads. The 'loader' itself becomes overhead, part of the bloat.

To me, however, its not so much about its memory usage, load time, or installation size, its the fact that if I want one part, I am forced to have (even if I dont want or use) all of the other parts.

I just hope that when Dolphin is stable, that distros that dont try to stay 'all KDE', will do away with Konq. I hope for the rest of them that Konq gets the file manager either removed, or optional.

Thats all. I dont have a problem with the features or functionality of Konq as a file browser in its self. I honestly dont see a difference between Dolphin and Konqs file manager. I Only like Dolphin more because it has a slightly better layout, and it doesnt require you to install a specific Web Browser or other components.

                Hi,
                I agree,

just "apt-get remove --purge dolphin" and Konqueror returns as default.
Konqueror is great, and also has a resumable download manager, unlike any of the other browser offerings out there so far to my knowledge. The Mozilla foundation was supremely disinterested in resumable down loaders.
I hope Kubuntu will maintain it properly, and unfortunately since forking it from Debian, they still have not fixed font shrinking or enlarging on Wikipedia and some other pages through all releases of Kubuntu so far.

I agree Dolphin is inferior as default file manager.

So lets get rid of it as default, or at least allow a choice of file manager, on opening it and properly package Konqueror!

Konqueror is one of the main reasons I'm using KDE, how to set it like default manager again? There are no options in graphical view how to do that.

                Please help me!!!

                    Thanks for the tip...

Really Dolphin sucks as my pierced right nipple. There's one difference... A file manager should not suck and a nipple is meant for sucking.

The detail view has no horizontal split is really annoying, while the sidebars takes a lot of usable workspace and a tree view I didn't find so fast.

If someone is looking for a good 2 column filemanager, Krusader does a great job and has much more usable features.

My favourite file manager whilst using Windows was 2xExplorer, one or two panes, previews, etc.
I read somewhere that it runs under Wine - but to be honest i've now grown a preference for Konqueror, so i'll stick with it.

I got to tell you, I do like Konqueror a lot. But hearing you speak about IE, I need to tell you that there is a project which is call internet explorer for linux. You can see the website here:http://www.tatanka.com.br/ies4linux/page/Main_Page. I need to tell you that there is some website that only can be seen with IE. This project allows you to have IE with flash player. I think it is a neat thing to have. Just to let you know. :P

                          Hey everyone,

I wanted to change the default file manager back to konquorer as well, and here are the reasons why (and in order of priority for me) :

                          Dolphin's 'feature' I don't like :

                          It's not localized in Dutch.
It doesn't have the Address Bar for copy/paste the folder you navigated to.

If however these things are configurable I would love to go back to Dolphin because I also think the File Manager and Browser should be separate programs (projects) so they could incorporate specific features for both purposes.

View > Navigation Bar > Edit Location

You also have to understand that the program you are using in KDE 3.5 is called D3lphin NOT Dolphin. It is a test version compiled from really old source that is not officially maintained by KDE.

Dolphin, the real one, is part of KDE4, and contains many more features and fixes since D3lphin was compiled.

                              Thanks for your reply.
This solves one of the 2 things, but I still have one more question about the Navigation Bar. Can you make this setting last?
When I close D3lphin it loses this setting.

I suppose once KDE4 is production ready, Dolphin will have localizations just like any other application ?

For now I keep Konquorer as default file manager.

Possibly goto View > Adjust View Properties > Apply View Properties to all folders. That might save the setting when it closes.

The only problem with the address bar, is it replaces that other navigation bar which I really like. I wish they could both be on at the same time.

You can see them adding more localizations all the time on the KDE site, so it would be a safe bet to think that you will get yours.
