How to change konqueror back to default file manager in 7.10

I tried gutsy beta, and guess what I realised? Dolphin is default file manager. >
Konqueror is one of the main reasons I'm using KDE, how to set it like default manager again? There are no options in graphical view how to do that.

    Please help me!!!

Dolphin is great, and its about time they separated the file manager from the web browser.

What they need now is a way to remove Konqueror entirely, its pretty useless.

Hey! That's taking it a bit too far, don't you think?

I myself set the default file manager back to Konqueror. I don't need any sidebars or anything, just icons (previews are nice), back/forward/up buttons, an address bar, and a good context menu and I'm happy.
        For external use only.

Honestly no. There is nothing that konqueror does that is not done better by a myriad of other apps out there.

But thats not the big issue. Konqueror, and Epiphany, remind me of my old Windows days with IE and all the other apps that I have no use for, that have much better alternatives, but they are embedded into the OS (or this case the DE) like a thorn.

The one thing that ties these into the DE is that they also act as a default file manager (these apps have severe identity issues).

It is my hope that with the inclusion of Dolphin that they will allow for a konqueror-less KDE install, which would just make my day.

I am also interested in finding out how to turn back the default to konqueror. Can you please help us SheeEttin? I do believe that thedevilsjester is taking this a little too far, but the good thing about Linux is that we all have options. If he likes dolphin better than konqueror is good he should have his option open just like ours. Thanks for the post in advance.

I must admit, i much prefer Konqueror as a file browser, so i just used Adept to remove Dolphin....

Konqueror is an excellent file browser, but i prefer Firefox for the web.

Just remove dolphin via adept/synaptic and Konqueror will step in.

I love Konqueror. I tried dolphin while on feisty for a while and soon removed it. I just didn't like the interface. when I upgraded to gutsy and saw it was the default i quickly removed it and K stepped right in to take it's place.

I find Konqueror nothing like explorer. The tabs allow you to surf as well as manage/find files. People forget that ie and explorer were two different things in windows and neither of them performed well.

It's all about choice and preference, that's why we use Linux.

Go to Konqueror -> Settings menu -> Configure Konqueror -> File Associations and change the association for inode/directory to Konqueror at the top rather than Dolphin. Simple as that

Thanks for that Jucato. I really don't like Dolphin, and that has sorted it out for me.

Yes thankyou, Dolphin kept messing stuff up.

I really dont understand what ppls issue with Dolphin is. Even the watered down version for KDE 3.x is a great program. Fast, easy to use and full featured. No extra bloat like Konq has.

The KDE 3.x version does crash if I keep it open for a long time, but other then that its a great replacement for Konq!

I am afraid I have to agree with Konqueror still being better than Dolphin for me. Dolphin still has many bugs. I can not set view hidden files as a default even in settings. It does not remember updated settings. Dolphin complained about saving Bookmarks.html as not having permissions, DUH. The files is in my home directory. I had to delete Bookmarks.html and let Dolphin rebuild it. There are not enough customization settings in Dolphin yet. Not like Konqueror. Just an opinion.

And your basing this on the hacked together 3.x Dolphin? Or the real one?

I can't work up very much passion about file managers -- I'm not that picky -- nautilus and thunar are fine by me -- I'll even use Krusader.

However, I do find it odd that while setting Dolphin as the default for Gutsy, the button on the panel remains for Konqueror. It almost looks like they didn't really have the courage of their convictions to convert everything to Dolphin. :P
