How could I have been so ignorant! I thought Linux was the combination Linus+Unix (FATAL ERROR), never would I have figured it was Linus+Minix.

Zip, nada, zero ...

However, I do know that there are "tiny Linux" versions, that are suitable for embedded applications -- some of my engineer buddies use these for running communications systems on a circuit board (radio-like devices). Linux is vastly flexible, and can be made to work for all kinds of purposes.

After some googling, I found this link for Ipod Linux. There is apparently an ipodlinux.org, but they seem to be offline at the moment. I don't have an Ipod, but would probably use Ipod Linux if I did. Very cool 8)

I think the alleged "disadvantages" of 64-bit Linux are rapidly disappearing, at least for my purposes. We're down to stuff like the "Rhapsody Player" plugin won't install on 64-bit Firefox. I think there are Java issues for programmers, too. I suspect in 6 months we won't even be talking about it any more.

Not to go off topic, but there are many other reasons why many of us dont switch to 64bit nix, and software compatibility is not one of those.

For me its the pure hell you have to go through to compile (my own) 32bit apps that depend on many libs that I have to compile as 32bit as well. This is whats stopping me from using 64bit.

What do you know about Ipod Linux distros?

I have never managed to get iPod Linux installed on any of my iPods. I try with every new version, in hopes that it will work this time, but no luck so far. It wont even install.
