The mono-1.2.5.1 installer doesn't do anything

The version of Mono in Gutsy repository is 1.2.4 but i want to install the newest one. So I downloaded the binary installer: mono-1.2.5.1_2-installer.bin. Unfortunately none of the following does do anything in a terminal:
    ./mono-1.2.5.1_2-installer.bin
    ./mono-1.2.5.1_2-installer.bin --mode xwindow
    ./mono-1.2.5.1_2-installer.bin --mode texte

I have a fresh installation of Kubuntu-Gutsy (KGutsy) in the root partition / with the /home partition inherited from KFeisty.

any idea how to process the installation?

Have you marked it executable (i.e. "chmod +x mono-1.2.5.1_2-installer.bin")?
    For external use only.

Yes, I have also tried to execute as root but it does nothing

Does it say anything at all, or just execute and immediately give you back your shell?

Nothing at all, here are the shell outputs:

          edp@edplap:~$ ./mono-1.2.5.1_2-installer.bin
          edp@edplap:~$ ./mono-1.2.5.1_2-installer.bin --mode xwindow
          edp@edplap:~$ ./mono-1.2.5.1_2-installer.bin --mode texte
          edp@edplap:~$

Although no error message appears, the installer is supposed to ask for the installation directory.

I come back to shell in less than a second.
