Internet troubles with KTorrent

Hello,

I hope someone out there can point me in the right direction to solve this annoyance, when i start Ktorrent, my internet browsing gets slower and slower until it stops, download in ktorrent still going strong.. :-( I have 6Mbit download, and 1.5 Mbit Upload, have limited download to 500 kb per sec. and upload to 48kb per sec. still strangling the browsing, i am stuck it seems. Any advice here?

This is a well-known problem with KTorrent. I think I've been able to fix it by settings maximum connections per torrent to 128, the global connection limit to 512, the maximum upload rate to 15 kB/s (my upload bandwidth is about 20 kB/s continuous), and stopping any torrents once they've finished, meaning no seeding.

I would love to seed (even at my low upload speed), but KTorrent needs to stop opening so many connections. (Next time this happens, execute "netstat | grep 6881". This will show you how many connections KTorrent has open (6881 is the default torrent port).)
