So today network manager is saying I'm disconnected from the net and will not let me connect. Yet Firefox and Thunderbird have no issues. Konq can not access the internet at all.

check if networkmanager & networkmanagerd (dispatcher) are running in the bg. (with ksysguard). i'm betting they're not for some reason. if they're not, you must launch them as su. they are located in:
/usr/sbin/
NetworkManager
NetworkManagerDispatcher
oh yeah, and don't forget to launch knetworkmanager if its not already running.<br />

Today's updates seem to have fixed it!
This is the fun of running an alpha - things change almost every day.
I didn't even get a chance to check your fix. Thank you so much for it anyway though!
