    Internet suddenly stopped working :(

    Hi all..
    i am using Kubuntu Gutsy since October last year.. and before that i had Ubuntu 7.04 installed. I connect to the internet through a LAN connection and it was working fine since all these months on both the systems. But 3 days back, it suddenly stopped working.. I was using Kubuntu 7.10 while it stopped working. When i connected the other HDD that has Ubuntu installed, it din't work on that either.. however the same connection works on windoes on the same machine
    I don't have any clue as to what went wrong.. Nothing has changed. No hardware changes! It shows me connected, but doesn't work. I configured it using "pppoeconf" and i did that again yesterday.. No use.
    Please help me troubleshoot this issue.. How should i go about it. What should i look for? I am really foxed:?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated..
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards.

    The name of your network adapter is probably eth0.
    Open the console and type: sudo ifdown eth0
    Then type: sudo ifup eth0
    See if that gets you going. Good luck.

      I tried doing that; doesn't work that way either...
      Here is the output of ifconfig and plog after executing
      "$pon dsl-provider"

      ~$ ifconfig
      eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:08:A1:97:3C:BB
      inet addr:10.10.196.132 Bcast:10.10.255.255 Mask:255.255.0.0

      collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
      RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)

      ppp0 Link encap:Point-to-Point Protocol
      inet addr:221.128.175.103 P-t-P:202.63.173.66 Mask:255.255.255.255

      collisions:0 txqueuelen:3
      RX bytes:54 (54.0 b) TX bytes:54 (54.0 b)

      The output of plog just after using "pon dsl-provider" is as follows...
      $ plog
      Mar 30 11:27:09 kMax pppd[4241]: Using interface ppp0
      Mar 30 11:27:09 kMax pppd[4241]: Connect: ppp0 <--> eth0
      Mar 30 11:27:12 kMax pppd[4241]: CHAP authentication succeeded: Welcome to BARC.
      Mar 30 11:27:12 kMax pppd[4241]: CHAP authentication succeeded
      Mar 30 11:27:12 kMax pppd[4241]: peer from calling number 00:11:11:7DF:31 authorized
      Mar 30 11:27:12 kMax pppd[4241]: Cannot determine ethernet address for proxy ARP

      Please see if this can provide a lead to troubleshoot this issue..
      Can there be a configuration change from the ISP that might cause such a problem that Kubuntu 7.10 does not {or cannot } automatically adjust to?

      Thanks and regards.

        I'm sorry but I'm no good with dial-up connections.

          Thanks for replying anyways. No luck yet. I could not get my connection working on Kubuntu 7.10/Ubuntu 7.04 yet!
          I just wonder what could have gone wrong...
