    help airport extreme won't work

    Hi

    I am new to Kubuntu.

I have an imac G4 with an airtport extreme card in it and I can't connect to the internet.

It is broadcom bcm4306chipset which has shown up in the restricted drivers manager and I have enabled it and updated the firmware but I still can't connect to the internet.

Inside network settings it shows as enabled wireless network device and I have added my essid and wep code and I still can't connect.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanx

    chris

    1) As you already have your wireless card working and configured, it'll be good to see the output of "iwlist [your_wireless_interface] scan" and see if it find any AP or wireless routers in your neighborhood, including yours. If you see your AP, then you'll have to check your WEP configuration again. Pay attention that a shared and an open key are totally different, and you have to pass this parameter correctly to iwconfig.

    2) Have you already tried to disable the WEP in your Acess Point? If you still can't
connect, at least you'll know that's not a authentication problem.

      Hi JuliaKuiper

      Thanx for your reply.

I do not have the airport extreme card working it just show up in network settings but not inthe knetwork manager. I has a red ring around it as if to symbolise it is not getting a signal.

I have tryed dropping to 802.11b from 802.11g and it still has no cpnnection with or without wep on the router ,which is a bt home hub.

I now have problems connecting with ethernet so I think I am going to re install and to get the defaults back and then install all up dates and Knetwork manager which shows up as not installed in the adept package manager.

      thanx for your help

      chris
