ethernet problem

after i boot into kubuntu and plug in the network chord..
i cant use the net.. ( dhcp )
even if i log out and log in.. it still doest work
i will have to restart the system to use the net
is there a way to only restart the network part?

i mean.. it doesnt work like windows where we can plug in the network chord anytime we want

am new to linux..

Run the command
sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart
to restart the network like on bootup.

You can also run
sudo dhclient

To rediscover your IP. I don't know if this is supposed to be automatic or not as I use static.

check your network settings (under system settings) and make sure the network is set to 'activate on computer start'

if not check the box and reboot!
Using:
Mint Kubuntu 7.10 (kde4 dual core 2.2ghz 4gb)
Freenas (nx6325 hp laptop)
Mint Gnome 7.10 (EEE Pc 4g white 1 gb ram)
