When I boot Gutsy up on the live Cd, my wireless card works, but after I installed it, the network manager will not configure my wireless card. When I tried to manually configure the device, Knetwork manager complained that it could not create a valid IP address. Anyone have any ideas what the cause/fix might be?

Try installing the madwifi drivers and going through the configuration instructions on their website:

I'm using Atheros chips with a stock install and stock chip drivers.
Your problem is almost certainly that you tried to do a manual wireless configuration. You can probably solve it easily, (return to automatic without changing chip drivers. The fact that you could connect before in liveCD mode guarantees that you had proper card drivers already.
