No network after upgrade to 7.10 from 7.04

    Hi,

The Update applet in 7.04 offered to upgrade to the new release (7.10), so I let it
Left it running overnight, but now I have no Internet.
The machine is connected by wire to a wireless router, which is on a DSL modem.
My laptop still has Internet, so the modem, router and service are still fine.

    Any help would be appreciated!

Should also mention that the KNetworkManager does not launch. No error, just never comes up. If I run it from Konsole, there is no feedback there, either. "echo $?" even returns 0.

Thanks for the post! Still trying to get it up, though.

This machine only has a wired connected.
When I type "sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart"
I get a bunch of "Permission denied" messages (full list below). So this explains why the network won't start.

        One post recommends:
"Reinstalling packages dhcp3-client and dhcp3-common worked for me"

But how do I re-install these packages when I have no network?

Have you tried the 'simple' check?

K Menu | System Settings | Network Settings | Network Interfaces (have to click the Administrator Mode button) to see if your Available Network Interfaces are marked as active?

Forgot the details again. Here is the output of the dhclient command showing the "Permission denied" messages:

            $ sudo dhclient eth0
            [sudo] password for andy:
There is already a pid file /var/run/dhclient.pid with pid 134519120

Thanks again. Unfortunately, I get the "KDE Crash Handler".
"The application System Settings (systemsettngs) crashed and caused the signall 11 (SIGSEGV)....

"Backtrace" shows "(no debugging symbols found) lots of times...

I'm thinking I should just backup the home dirs, and re-install from the 7.10 Live-CD.

Not required! This problem was reported and I posted the fix to it here.
