    recieving a wireless signal problem

    hey everyone

so i was at an internet cafe today with my laptop, and updated everything. and got knetwork manager. so, apparently everything seems to work ok, i think it recognizes my hardware. but now i cannot pick up the signal here at my apt. i can pick it up no problem with windows here, but i cannot see the signal at all with linux. what should i do?

Start by telling us what type of wireless adapter you have. The go to K>System Settings>Network and tell us what you see there. If you see your wireless adapter their, click the Administrator Mode button, enter your password, click on your wireless adapter and click the configure button. Make sure the settings are correct such as Automatic and to Start at boot.

hey. so i just changed those settings, to both automatic, and start at boot. which it then did get the ip address i think of the router. which i thought was a good sign. and also, the icon for wired networking then changes from disconnected, with the little x, to the connected icon. which again i thought good sign. but, when trying to get on the internet no luck..... and also, kwifimanager shows nothing.

however, oddly enough it DID work one time, i could see the signal, but still no connection to it.... argh! but after restart it didnt do that anymore.

as for hardware, this laptop is the asus f3sv-a1 and the built in wireless is Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN

      what should i do now

Re: recieving a wireless signal problem

Take a look at this thread. It has some good information and pertains to your card.

        http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3086409.0

If that doesn't work for you, search in this order

        kubuntu forums http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...action=search2

        ubuntu forums http://ubuntuforums.org/search.php?searchid=29970517

        google http://www.google.com/search?q=4965a...ient=firefox-a

That is good general advice for how to find an answer.

There were many threads, not just one. If you look at the google link you will see that Intel has a driver for this. I would start there. Their site includes a how-to.
