Edit: Resolved! Was able to run fsck a few times and finally things took care of themselves after a weird rebooting sequence I can't explain.
When I loaded up Kubuntu today, fsck ran and there were a lot of errors. Then there is a "fail" notification. Then I'm at the root@mycomputer line. I tried to "startx" but that didn't work. Then I type "reboot" and I get to the Kubuntu login screen. I try to log in and get the message "Unable to start ksetupconfig. Check your installation." Then I'm kicked out to the login screen again. I tried click on "Console Login" but it just goes to a black screen and then back to the Kubuntu login screen.
Tried this whole process (including fsck) a few times with the same results.
Any ideas?
