[solved] blank screen on startup

I have an HP dv9628nr laptop with a vista/kubuntu7.10 dual boot with wicd as wireless manager

This morning, wicd dropped my connection (something it does with depressing regularity) and I was unable to reconnect without rebooting.

Rebooting brought up a blank monitor. No grub. No log-in. No anything. LiveCD's don't bring up anything on the monitor.

Any suggestions would be gratefully accepted.

Does the BIOS splash appear or is it completely dead?

It sounds to me as though you are having hardware issues (i.e. a loose connection somewhere) :P Is the laptop still under warranty?

To tell the truth, I don't remember how long my warranty was for, right off the top of my head. I bought it over 6 months ago so maybe not. And I spent my wad... I can't afford a big repair bill.

All the lights come on and I can hear it check the dvd drive.

I can't hear a fan for the nVidia card though. No fans at all.

Problem solved: Static buildup - Had to take out the battery and completely drain the power from it.
