after 50% instalation goes back to desktop

    Hello

I was looking down the threads to find an awnser but the only awnser i found was: "try alternate CD install " but i will start with my problem.

I burned the CD at lowest speed (cause highest speed gives a faulty disk), checked it and installed it, i let the install take all my harddisk space.

It starts installing but after 50% it just turns back to the desktop, no message or something it just turns back to the desktop

After that i check if it is installed but it isn't, i have tried it several times with 3 diffrent Cd's but it just doesn't work.

I also don't know how to use the alternate CD

    thanks for any help,

    Kwafo

What is the size of the partition(s) you allocated for the installation? Did you designate a separate /home partition, or are you using a single partition?

I use single guided partition (or how is it called?) the second option in the instalation

the size of my harddrive is 500G

What version of Kubuntu are you trying to install?

I have found the live cd for 7.10 to be tricky at times.

I have been using 8.04 since alpha as my main system for some time and installed a few versions for friends. It is stable since beta and will be released shortly. Its live installer is much more stable than the one for 7.10 so why not try that with the manual partitioning selected if you have or want (good idea anyway) a separate /home partition.

            OK I tried it

I burned the BETA and installed it, it was going past 50% yeah i thought

but at 70% i got an error, bad CD etc etc, Sigh. I burned it again and tried it again

Yeah it was going past 50%, it was going past 70% but at like 80% the same thing as kubuntu 7.10 happend. The installation just quites, and returns to desktop

            WHY!!!

I tried so hard to install kubuntu but it just wont work

i also tried to make my own partitions in the correct ways (some help from ubuntu irc chat)

            but it just didn't work

This says you are burning a defective CD. It could be caused by one or more of the following:

              - burning too fast -- you must only burn at 4X speed

              - downloaded file has some defect -- the md5sum must match the web site md5sum

              - defective blank CD media -- try a different brand

              - problem with your CD burner -- try a different burner

Sorry to see so much trouble!

ehm ill try again because i WANT to use kubuntu

burning too fast: 8x speed is the lowest speed available in Nero, should i burn with other program?, poweriso gave an error (but i could try again)

Download file has some defect, how can i check md5sum with the website

                i have tried 3 diffrent brands CD's

this is a new burner in my pc and same problem exists with burner of my sisters laptop

but i Will try all above (will cost me some CD's but i don't have much choice :P)

I will also look for an USB install or something like that?
