need help installing .deb packages

I have just reinstalled gutsy, and I need to install Jackd server for some multimedia apps (guitar stuff) and I was able to find the .deb package already compiled, but how do I get it to install?

BTW, I am a newbie and only have windows experience, but loving this version already.

Also, does it matter where I save the files and do I need to include the command line.

It also had told me I need supervisor permission, but I am the only user and had set myself up in every group

Right click on the .deb, then go to Open With, and choose GDebi Package Installer. Then, click Install, and it'll ask you for your password. Then after that, it'll install.

pearSalad's instruction is correct.

However, is jackd not in the Gutsy repository? If it is, it would be better if you use Adept Manager and install the package that way.

I keep getting commit errors doing it either way, I can't get it to upgrade to 8.04 either, update manager crashed is what came up. Now this is 2 installs from the CD I downloaded, when it first comes up it tells me I have 166 updates and when I do them, it fails and I get the commit error, then I run the update system again and nothing is there as if everything did install.
When I use the adept manager, it does not give me the ability to get any of the packages to download or install. but I can get it to read not installed install. but the update button is grey.

Your installation CD might be corrupt.
