Before I install on new hard drive, what version do I need?

I am putting in hard drive in a tower that has all the bells and whistles but no hard drive. I just want to know what to download. I get that Amd 64 and i.386 are referring to the processor. But what is the meaning of .iso; .iso.torrent; .jigdo; .template etc... ?

What do I download to install kubuntu on a brand new hard drive?

I have done this before with windows. I feel fairly comfortable with most of it. I assume that .iso is the main installation. I just don't want to screw it up. Thanks.

Unless you are using a torrent, you just want to download the .ISO.

Once you have downloaded the ISO, you will need to burn the ISO image to a blank CD-R with a program like K3B.

I found this little tool a short time ago.

      http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm

It adds support directly into windows for burning .iso images to CD. It worked great for me on the Kubuntu Alternate CD a couple weeks ago.

Once it's installed, simply right click on your .iso file and select the option to burn the image to a CD.

It is a very light weight, straight forward tool to use.
