Totally screwed - unable to log on after KDE4 install

Installed KDE4 on laptop yesterday - don't actually remember doing anything with passwords - however after cold re-start this morning I can't log on - password incorrect ? Is there any way I can logon [by special user / via CD or whatever] to fix this ?

You had to give a password during install.

    Have you forgotten it?

    Try this:
boot into recovery mode-> type startx at the prompt. this will give the root gui desktop.
Now open a terminal with kmenu->system-<terminal and type:
    Code:
    passwd <username>
where <username> is replaced by your username.

    now set your password

    Now type:
    Code:
    reboot
    and you should be set.

    I hope this helps

Have you tried hitting enter without providing a password? It may have "lost" your password, leaving the account without one. Happened to me once.
