Xorg takes up all of my cpu

    I'm having a strange problem.

When I'm refreshing my browser (firefox 2.0.0.12) the firefox process and Xorg process takes the entire cpu. So javascript is very very slow.

It isn't a javascript problem because on the same hardware a windows vista pc has no problem at all with this webpage.

    cat /proc/cpuinfo :
    Code:
    processor : 0
    vendor_id : AuthenticAMD

Does anybody ever encountered this problem and what did you do to solve it?

ps: I have no idea where to look for this problem so if i'm giving the wrong information just let me know and i will give you other information.

Re: Xorg takes up all of my cpu

One question that comes to mind is, how much of your CPU does Vista use when you are doing the same thing (refreshing the browser)? Obviously, it is Firefox (not Kubuntu) that is consuming resources related to using the browser. Also, for comparison purposes in Linux, you could open Konqueror and go to the same web site, and, with top running, see how much of your resources are used with Konqueror.

As for xorg, it is your display system. When you are changeing web pages with the browser, of course the screen display is changing, so that will "exercise" xorg a bit, but I would not expect xorg to consume a lot of your CPU resources. I know from my own system that if you are running Compiz, that will make xorg work harder. Again, if you run top in a Konsole window, and observe it while you are running your browser, you may learn something further about the conditions under which the CPU is heavily burdened.

    Hope this helps.
