Bootsplash kills boot up.

Hi,
since feisty I have had this issue and usually I just bypass the issue by disabling bootsplash (remove splash for the boot parameters) but I am starting to miss the nice bootsplash screen.

I turn on the computer, select linux and the screen goes black and just sits there. If I disable splash it works fine, boots up (all the nice white text flying by). Infact it caused issues installing, I had to change the resolution and disable splash for the installer from the initial screen.

I am running Kubuntu Gutsy x64 (all uptodate).
Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB RAM
Geforce 8800 GTS 640MB
Abit Fatality nforce.

Any ideas?

Hi, unfortunately it didn't work. My issue doesn't seem to be exactly the same. For me I never get a blurry blue screen. The system quite simply seems to die. I select linux, get a bit of white text about the kernel (don't remember what it says but it's something i see everytime i boot without the splash anyway and it doesn't look like an error), then the screen goes black when you would expect the bootsplash to appear. The system continues to boot for a while, the num lock key lights up, optical on my mouse lights up, light on web cam turns on, cd drives spin, then all of a sudden everything stops ... and I try turning num lock on and off and nothing happens (which I believe is usually a sign that the system is dead). Thanks for the suggestion :-).
