Help with updates

I have noticed that If I do a software update with apt-manager, that sometimes a file is downloaded, but when it come to the install part, it fails because it wants to ask config questions. Since it is a gui running the show, those questions cannot be answered. If you run the 7.10 DVD install, then do an update, it fails on some packages for the same reason. ( BRAND NEW INSTALL fails updates ).

Is there some secret that I do not understand ( I am new to the kubuntu/ubuntu world - but LONG time linux user ). I see that we can do updates via the command line. Is this the solution? Install. Then do command line update so that you can answer the questions

You are not missing anything. This used to be an issue with installing java, but that has since been fixed. I am confident that the current issue will be fixed in the future. For the moment, however, dropping to the command line does get the job done.
