Dudes, here is a naive noobie perspective. To make Linux more popular and beat the Big M, there should not be so many choices as you have listed. Need to pare it down to 2 or three, just like auotmakers, etc. Maybe Fedora, Kubuntu, and ________?

I get your point, but that is a bad example.

I think there are about 2-6 dozen different types of sports cars, mid-size cars, city cars, limousines, etc. Hell some makeres produce at least 8 different versions of just one car: three deasels, four combustion engines, two wheel, 4x4, etc

It is a bit difficult at first abut when you get into the groove you will find that choice is great.
You have so many specialized distros that are usefull in their own rights.

Then you have the mainstream disrtos and that is a matter of taste.

There is also the matter of which forum is helpfull.
In that sense you have come to the best place on the planet
