    Live CD crashes?

    Hi all,
It seems my Live CD crashes: after the welcome screen, it goes in a alphanumerical screen, starting with :
    BusyBox v1.1.3

    and then:
    (initramfs)
    and several lines starting with:
    [429.265205] ata 1.00......

about 80% of the screen is filled, the cursor is flashing, but the CD LED is not lit, nor the HD LED.

It does this each time I try, and I tried with different file sources, I burnt several CDs... Is it normal? What can I do if it not normal?

    Thanks
    JC

    Well, normal it is not.

A number of questions. Have you got a special set up? Have you tried the "safe" option? Have you tried a previous version (like 6.10 LTS)?

Special set up: I don't really see what you mean, but I think I have nothing exceptional. A laptop, PIII 700MHz, 384MHz.
I tried the "safe graphics mode", with the same result.
I also tried a previous version, 6.06 LTS, but I have a new error. After the welcome screen, with the "Loading Linux kernel" bar, I have some lines, which mainly are: "Buffer I/O error on device hdc, logical block 285xxx"
      Thanks

Most likely a video graphic conflict. Reboot with the LiveCD. At the menu, press the F4 key and select to boot into Safe Graphics. See if this doesn't allow you to procede correctly,

F4 is actually the choice of video format, so I left it as VGA, which I guess is the less demanding.

As previously, I selected "Safe Graphics Mode" again, and still the same: "Buffer I/O error on device hdc, logical block 308xxx"

          Thanks

Okay. What is your setup? Error on hdc itself says you have three HDs. Is this true? You have a laptop, so the other two HDs are connected via USB. Are they connected when you run the LiveCD? What OS (or OS's) are installed on the laptop now?

I found this in a German Ubuntu forum - apparently it worked for them
              Code:
              acpi=off irqpoll
I believe the important bit is acpi=off - have you tried that?
