        Right, thank you.

Can you go into /etc/X11/ and have a look for a file called xorg.conf - my bet is that whatever you did screwed up that file. To check when xorg.conf was last amended do a "ls -l", it'll show you the date. Also check for older versions of that file, probably called xorg.conf.bak or xorg.conf.backup.

For the sake of appearances first make a copy of your current xorg.conf - rename it to xorg.conf.bombed or whatever (sudo mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bombed). Then copy the most recent older version of your xorg.conf.bak or backup to xorg.conf.

Hope I made myself clear, if any questions, please do not hesitate to ask And let us know how you get on.

              Re: Need help wont boot

Thank you so much...that worked. but then my wireless internet wouldnt work. at one point i was trying to set up my computer as a gateway for my xbox360 rather then dropping a hundred bux on a wireless adapter for it. the method i was looking at had me edit /etc/network/interfaces file then it didnt work...i deleted all but
              # The loopback network interface
              auto lo
              iface lo inet loopback
then it worked again...so when i got my computer working again and the wireless wasnt i went into this file again and deleted it all but that again and it worked again. any idea whats happening? cuz i didnt change anything since i rebooted and it locked up and broke. or is it cuz i changed the xorg.conf file it changed that? oh and if u know how i could set my computer as a gateway that would be cool too thanx again

                Re: Need help wont boot

Re gateway - have a look here http://www.linuxjournal.com/node/1005985 and let us know how you get on.

Re wireless connection - you are using knetworkmanager to handle your network stuff. Wonderful programme that it is, it does fcuk up every now and then, especially if things are in /etc/network/interfaces that shouldn't be. You did right by deleting everything apart from the lo interface. How comes that it was changed? No idea!
