KDE 4 loads, aborts, reloads, ad infinitum

I followed the installation instructions for kde4-core on the kubuntu.com website; however, when loading, the icons all appear, the desktop opens up, minus the taskbar, and then the screen goes black, and then KDE4 tries to reload, repeating the same process over again until I abort it. The same thing happens when I try to load it inside Xephry-xterm from the KDE3 desktop. Any suggestions?

That happened to me with kde4 rc2. I dont know why it it is hapening with you now.

Can you find the ./kde4 (hidden) folder in /home/username? If it is there then try and relogg in.

What happened in rc2 was that that folder was only created after a Xephry-xterm session.

Let us know if that works

The /home/user/.kde4 folder is definitely there. I have run the Xephry-xterm program following a system reboot, and still have the problem. Is there a log file somewhere that can give me a lead on what may be the problem? I have also uninstalled and re-installed kde4 to no avail - same problem occurs.
