KDE4 LiveCD fails with I/O error

    Greets,

I've installed 7.10 Kubuntu fine albeit for having it not handle my 8800GT Nivida card. Now I've downloaded the "Remaster" LiveCD and after selecting the Normal Install (Top menu selection) I get a "Installing Please wait" followed after about 1 minutes an I/O error, then another one etc.

I've checked the MD5 is fine. Burnt and verified the burn twice and still get this error.

    Any thoughts?

Can you start session with the live CD ?

There is Install widget in the desktop - here it did the trick:

      Hi Rog131. Thanks for replying.

The CD image is the one I have been using. "Kubuntu 7.10 KDE 4.0 Remaster".

I'm going from memory so I apologise for any exact errors.

I downloaded the .iso and burnt / verified the disk.

Placing the disk in the PC I reboot and the KUBUNTU splash comes up, followed by the first menu. At this point I choose the first menu item "Something or Install". I didn't take much notice of the other menu item. Just assumed they were like the normal 7.10 install.

At this point the menu disappears and white text "which as I say says "Something Please Wait".

Then I get the I/O error.

My HD is IDE and my CDR is SATA.

As i said: I started live session with CD: " Start Kubuntu in safe graphic mode". I haven't tried "Start or install Kubuntu" from menu. There is "Install" widget in the desktop.

There has been problems with K/X/Ubuntu CD/DVD's:

        1) If the iso is not fixed to burn at faster than 4x (which other distros do quite happily) then please specify this as soon ans as concise as possible in the download / install instructions. This is crucial and a big producer of coasters or small frisbees. Most people will download the live version. Especially noobees, and that is your biggest potential market.

Note that i did the burn on the CDRW with 2x !

Re: KDE4 LiveCD fails with I/O error

          Hi Rog131,

up and running! Now here's how it went.

Selected "Start Kubuntu in safe graphics mode"

The screen changed to "Loading please wait" followed as before by this display:
          [ 74.809248] Buffer I/O error on device fd0, logical block 0
          [ 86.949377] Buffer I/O error on device fd0, logical block 0
          [ 112.247290] Buffer I/O error on device fd0, logical block 0
          [ 124.383337] Buffer I/O error on device fd0, logical block 0

Then the CD started and booted xserver and I got a movable Arrow cursor and blank screen. Live CD progressed no further.

So I rebooted and chose the first "Start or Install Kubuntu" I left the room. I assume the same I/O errors came up. I came back to the system sitting at the "Running local scripts" This is nothing new. It's because my 8800GT card is unknown.

          So I Ctrl-Alt-F2 and:

          $sudo /etc/init.d/kdm stop
          $sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg (choosing VESA)
          $sudo /etc/init.d/kdm restart

Now I'm installed and running. Now just to follow the final setup guides etc.

I hope this can help someone else overcome a similar or same problem.

          Thanks for your assistance sir.
