    [SOLVED!]Loading hardware drivers then..error?

I successfully installed Kubuntu in duel boot with Windows Xp, although when I try to load it I get an error when it tries to load the hardware drivers.

This is the specific error message:

"Unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address ffffd310"

Theres a couple of them all pointing to different "virtual addresses"

Usually I just get something like:

    [53.90266] =============

So, if anyone has any ideas on what I could do to fix this...enlighten me

Amazing! I was going to remove my graphics card because i figured that was what is causing the problem.

So I went into the BIOs and set the computer to load the onboard video instead of PCI. By the time I pluged the video cable into the other slot, Kubuntu had booted!

Although for some strange reason it didn't actually go into Kubuntu, but it did get past the loading screen. So I put in a Ubuntu Live CD, and selected start in Safe Graphics Mode, and it worked!

I'm so happy! I can ditch Windows now!

Are you sure that the installation was successful? If you were able to boot from the LiveCD, then chose the Install option, and it went all the way through to completion, then you shouldn't be having any problems when rebooting your PC and selecting to boot into Gutsy.

I couldn't boot from the Live CD, in either Safe Graphics or Start and Install. (In Ubuntu)
I'm pretty sure Kubuntu will just react the same way on a Live CD.

Yea I'm sure it installed...I didn't get any error messages...

        What are your PC specs:

        CPU
        Video Card/chip manufacture/model

The biggest problem (almost) always comes from the video card/chip in the PC.

          Alright here goes:
          Pentium 4 CPU 3.00GHz
          1 GB of RAM
          Video card: NVIDIA GeForce 6200
Although I do have an onboard Intel 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family which I no longer use..

Does that mean, that in your BIOS, you have disabled this?

No I havn't disabled it, I can still switch to it from my desktop if I want to plug the cable back into that slot.

Not having a desktop PC, and not having the experience of working with one that has 'two' video cards/chip sets, I can't truly say what the effects on the system are of having both 'active.' If I were you, I'd disable the onboard video chip and reboot and see what improvements, if any, occur.

Yea that does makes sense...how would I go about disabling it?

Reboot and look for the message on what key(s) to press to enter BIOS Setup - on many PC's, it's the Escape key (could be F2). When you enter the BIOS setup, look for an option to disable the video chip.

Alright I'll do that, then try and boot Kubuntu.

I'm on a second computer now...

I don't seem to see an option for disabling it...it lets me choose which one I want to boot with, its set to PCI atm and that would be my video card.

I see this for Onboard items.
                        Onboard video memory size
                        Onboard Pata/Sata Adapters    [Both]
                        Onboard Pata/Sata Config  [Enhanced Mode]
                        Onboard LAN    [Enabled]
                        Onboard LAN Boot ROM    [Disabled]
                        Onboard 1394    [Enabled]
                        Onboard Audio    [Auto]

Nothing there looks like the chipset...unless the 1394..?

Reboot into Gutsy normally. From a console, type:
                          Code:
                          lspci | grep Graphics
                          and copy/paste the results.

                              Sorry!

From the boot menu, there is one for Ubuntu 7.10, kernel 2.6.22-14-generic (recovery mode)

Select it. Are you able to boot into the command line? (you will be 'root' if successful)
