Re: Who's gonna be an early KDE4 adopter?

I hope so. I want to go all KDE4 with HH. I don't want to look back, all the way forward!!

Are any of you guys using a torrent? This is taking me forever.... I guess I will download the iso and then add it to the torrent.

My download finished sometime last night. Yep, slow. Anyway, Bongo5HH, I'll see what it does on my system and report back.

Re: Who's gonna be an early KDE4 adopter?

Actually that was the best Alpha I've ever quick tested!! Very little appeared to be broken, except System Menu, it was 50% broken. Had to use Konqueror to get around that! Like it better than Dolphin anyway. The fact that my NTFS partitions auto-mounted was BEAUTIFUL!!! I've never seen KDE to that! Great job guys!!

I just wished that had an all KDE4 Live-CD iso for HH to test. My vid was auto-detected perfectly! Even had the right choice Resolution which I've never seen before. While testing though, I thought of something that would be great in KDE4. In the Keyboard/Mouse settings under System Settings, better Mouse configuration. Have it detect the number of buttons on a mouse and have you set those according to your preference.

Great Alpha release guys! I personally would consider this where I'd switch over from Gutsy!

grrr! Me no like you no more!

Hardy wouldn't boot for me.. I've just finished installing Gutsy again... maybe I should do a side by side thing... ya you know that's not a bad idea. Kinda worried about having data get ruined though...

I've considered doing a "dist upgrade" will that work to an alpha?
I still can't lick this audio problem with KDE4.. it's really starting to bug me.. third weekend in a row that I've spent hours watching Kubuntu being installed.

                Sorry

Didn't mean to report back so positive. I also tested the iso under VirtualBox. Maybe you can try something similar?

Re: Who's gonna be an early KDE4 adopter?

                  You know what's funny... what really got me in your post. You said that HH automounted your NTFS drive.... I have never had Kubuntu (KDE) auto-mount even my other Linux partitions... every time I install I have to go through the following;

                  Code:
                  sudo mkdir /storage

                  sudo cp /etc/fstab /etc/fstab_backup

                  sudo nano /etc/fstab
                  insert this into fstab
                  Code:
                  /dev/hda1 /storage ext3 defaults 0 0
                  then

                  Code:
                  sudo mount -a

                  sudo chown -R username:username /storage
                  sudo chmod -R 755 /storage
                  Which I learned from http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/mountlinux

I was ok with HH working for you and not for me.. really.. but when I saw that your drives automount it was more than my pride could take! You've crushed me! lol!!!

What is it with Kubuntu 3.5.8? I have no trouble with it mounting all my partitions - including the two NTFS ones.

In fact to be perfectly honest, if i had to hack fstab and tell it to mount them, i'd find a distro that would do it automatically.

This is the bizarre thing about Kubuntu it seems to behave differently on everyone's computers and even between installs on the same computer.

I'm doing a dist-upgrade to HH right now.. I mean hey.. half the weekend has been eaten up now why not spend the rest of it eh?

                      hehe

Yeah, Kev, I can verify Moonrise's report. I just installed HH Alpha 4 and was somewhat shocked, first to see my NTFS-formatted thumb drive appear on my desktop, apparently mounted, and then to click on it and have Dolphin open it and show me the contents. I think I'm going to miss putting that special "fdi policy" file in again -- guess I can forget that little kubuki dance.

However, the unhappy report is that when I marked "kde4-core" and "kde4" in Adept, it showed "BREAK". After my success with it on Gutsy I really wasn't expecting that. I'll mess around with it, after I get my Nvidia driver and Compiz set up, and see if I can figure out what's up with that.

Like I said, I never, ever have had KDE auto-mount. Was a surprised to me. Always have to break out ntfs-3g. I'm actually quite pleased. On the other hand I can also vouch that it seems to work differnly for differnt people even when thay have very smilar machines. I'm still sorry, it wasn't my intent to "crush" anything. I was just so surprised at how well this Alpha performed. I'm not use to that.

Hehehe Moonrise you gotta know I'm joking. I'm HAPPY for your success!!

I'm in HH now.. I did a dist-upgrade which seems to have mostly worked. Audacity recognizes the entire soundcard now! But it won't play anything... lol Phenom (spelling?) gave a notice when the desktop loaded that there was some issue with the soundcard... not sure what it said.

If I can figure out how to get into phenom I might be able to figure it out.

All my "system sounds" like windows opening and closing work.. but Audacity won't play anything, and Amarok won't load.

OH and I should mention I'm in KDE4 still.

                              I know

I've been lol over this release.

This is what Kubuntu should be!

I'll actually wait one more release before I migrate over. As I said, KDE4 with no looking back!

In for a penny, in for a pound.

I decided to download it, and i'll probably install it later on today (Sunday).

                                Edited to add:
I've tried five times to burn the .iso, and each time "there were errors" according to K3b burning at Auto and 4x. 2x isn't allowed.

Maybe i'll re-download it tonight and try again another time.
