I don't know if this helps....

    Edited to add:

    Run:
    Code:
    kdesu kate /etc/modules

    Code:
    visor
    on the last line.

I always find a few things that are interesting in the way they are implemented compared to others.
What feels natural, and what looks nice.

I don't like XFCE. Every time I've tried it, it was just not customizable enough. I might throw it on a laptop, if I don't run FVWM, or a *box WM.

On my desktop, I'm torn between the elegant simplicity of Gnome, and the tweakability of KDE, and its effects. I can't run Gnome without Compiz, or Compiz-Fusion. The Murrine engine is nice. I do prefer the Gnome "App - System - Actions" menu layout, instead of the KDE lump it all together menu.

Neither compare to the Baghira Menu, and its simple search menu.
      The answers are out there...

Well, I done gone did it....I needed to upgrade to KDE 4 after Bongo's enthusiasum. I too see quite a nice little performance gain. The only thing I don't care for at this point is the menu. Any thoughts as to how to change it?

        Thanks,

        Dave

In the "Add Widgets" pull over to the task bar the "Traditional Menu". It's like 3.5.8.

You can easily change the menu from the 'kickoff' based menu to the old style menu by...

            1. Right click on the icon on the kicker bar and select "Remove"
            2. Click on the Plasma icon and 'Add widgets'
            3. Drag the 'menu - old style??' to the kicker bar (I am in 3.5.8 right now, I don't remember the exact name)

            Done.

I actually have both on my panel. While I hate the new menu, I do like the search function it has.. AND more importantly if you right click on an item in the new menu you can "add to panel" so you have buttons on the panel for apps you use often. dibl or Fintan told me how to do this.. and I'm in-debted! Of course now they'll both think I owe them... lol! hehe

                  heh heh heh!

Actually, I'm going to retire and Bongo is going to teach me how to become a music producer with my Linux box.

                    quite.

I can then teach dible about the interesting parts of the legal side of music management and have a few martinis (and of course real beer and wine) with you guys in one of my newly planed restaurants in Switzerland.

                        It is Winston Churchill's recipe:

A large glass, ice, fill it up with bombay saphire gin, look at the bottle of dry martini, add a twist of lemon, stir, chuck the ice and serve over an olive into martini glasses.

That sounds great! My recipe substitutes a good vodka for the gin, and uses 3 olives -- otherwise it is just the same! Hey, what time is it?

a good vodka works fine too

Here it is 18:32 (6.32 PM) = Martini time

                            I think we are degressing

OK, I know how to get this back on topic ....

I want to install KDE4 on my new Hardy Heron Alpha 4 release and learn to use it, but here it is 18:32 on February 1 in Switzerland, and still there is no HH Alpha 4. So, if there's no Alpha 4, I guess I will either install Alpha 3, or drink a martini and check the Kubuntu site tonight.

Right, can anyone suggest a bar here in Switzerland that serves a decent martini (see recipe above)
