Abmormal boot: small console after splash

Hello. I have Kubuntu 7.10, it's works normally except for one problem. On boot, I can't log in from the graphics mode. The graphic login window is loaded normally, but when I entering login/password, normal splashscreen appears at first, and after it on a background the background of splashscreen (I know that this phrase sounds foolishly, but I'm don't know how to name that blue picture what is the background of splash. It's not desktop. My desktop quite another) appears in the left upper corner, standard, for the graphics mode, console (like program konsole under X), but without a title bar. And cursor. Nothing more is present on the screen. But when in this console I make attempt enter the command startx, it's talks that X server is already started. And if in the window of login to choose a point "Console registration" and in the mode of normal console run startx, X is started without problems. Now I do so, but why so takes a place and how correct it?

Re: Abnormal boot: small console after splash

May be my English very poor, but I'm not use in my question term "resolution". My desktop's resolution is normal, but X-server not loading from grafics mode login screen. It's a problem.

Re: Abmormal boot: small console after splash

        My bad .

So, you log in and get text screen ?

        Hmm -
blue picture what is the background of splash - console appears in the left upper corner
        - maybe your KDE setting files are damaged. You could try to build new Kubuntu/KDE desktop with default settings.

        Check what is wrong:
Xorg.0.log is log file for X Windowing Server. It is in /var/log/.

        Looking errors:
        Code:
        grep "(EE)" /var/log/Xorg.0.log
        Warnings:
        Code:
        grep "(WW)" /var/log/Xorg.0.log

Yes, few times. That can't help, because X server working excellent. That not X server's problem. When I run startx command server loading and working perfect. Problems is present only when I try to login into Kubuntu through graphical mode login screen.

You get normal KDE desktop, when you login text mode and start x from there ?

Re: Abmormal boot: small console after splash

This sounds as though you have not selected KDE as your "Session type"

To check boot your system, on the KDM graphical greeter click on "Session type" and make sure you have KDE selected! Then try to log in and tell us what happens.

Always easy when you have an idea 8) All down to experience and it won't happen again

For what it's worth (or in case anybody hasn't tried), there are other desktops, too. Gnome is used by Ubuntu and XFCE by Xubuntu to mention a couple. Both are easily installable in Kubuntu and can, after installation, be selected under the KDM graphical greeter (Session Type).
