    7.10 64 installation problem

    hi all, been awhile since ive run linux and decided to give kubuntu 64bit a shot instead of vista64 bit.
    the installation seems to go fine and spits the cd out then asks to reboot however after grub loads the last screen i see is kernel is alive mapping kernel 100000-8000 or something like this then the pc seems to go into a sleep mode or the video signal is killed at least and never comes back?any help is appreciated

    Foxconn C51XEM2AA- 8EKRS2H AM2 NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ Windsor 2.8GHz
    CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800
    BFG Superclocked 8800GT 512mb
    creative XFI extreme gamer sound card
    segate 160gb sata drive

    I have the same problem, except I can't even get through an install. Any option on the DVD that i try ends up with the Kernel is Alive thing and then the same numbers. After that the monitor is black.

      This is the culprit -- but don't think of it that way, it's a great card. Here's some guidance that should help, but you'll have to take a few stabs at it, I'm sure -- you've got a "character-building" process on your hands:

      As soon as you can get a VESA display going, use Konqueror, and get Envy installed, you can use Envy to do the Nvidia driver installation.
