Installed Kubuntu, now I get Grub Error 21

Hello, I just went through the Kubuntu 7.10 installation on my machine and now booting gives me a Grub Error 21. I had a 32GB NTFS WXPSP2 partition and used the Guided setup to install Kubuntu on the next 32 GB of space. Everything in the install went through and appeared to install successfully.

I now get the Error 21 when I try to boot. I've read some forum posts that talk about editing grub.conf or fstab, but when I boot to the installation CD, my drives won't mount. When I try to mount either the XP or Kubuntu partitions, I get "hal-storage-fixed-mount-all-options refused uid 999". I have no idea what that means, but I sure can't access the drive to edit the grub info.

Could someone let me know where to look here? It sounds similar to a boot.ini problem on the windows side, which I would know how to handle. I'm new to linux and am not sure what to do here.

    Any help is appreciated! Thanks...

***EDIT: I forgot to mention I'm using an Adaptec 1210SA Sata controller with RAID 1 enabled.

Dolphin has some issues with mounting drives. Go to System Settings => Advanced => Disk & Filesystem and create mounts there. IIRC, dolphin still didn't open them after I did that, but Konqueror did.

      Also, "sudo fdisk -l" reports:

      Disk sda
      /dev/sda1 - 1 - 4177 - HPFS/NTFS

      Disk sdb
      /dev/sdb1 - 1 - 4216 - HPFS/NTFS
      /dev/sdb2 - 4217 - 30023 - Linux
      /dev/sdb3 - 30024 - 30401 - Extended
      /dev/sdb5 - 30024 - 30401 - Linux swap / Solaris

I'm not sure what all that means. I'm surprised it actually sees two 250GB disks, as they're supposed to be in a RAID 1 config via the adaptec card.

I'm not sure if I did it right. I opened Disk and Filesystems, clicked modify on the 32 GB partitions, clicked OK, it asked if it should make a mount point so I said yes, and then I tried to access them in konqueror. I now get "Permissions denied" when I try to open media:/sdb1 or the other partition in konqueror. Did I do something wrong?

        Thanks...

After chatting with some helpful people in #kubuntu, I've determined a fake SATA RAID isn't really supported in ubuntu like it is in Windows. If there even is a way to get it working for the install and have it not break the existing RAID, it's more hassle than I'm prepared to deal with. For now I'm going to forget about it.

All raids are supported by kubuntu.

For more info have a look below (got them from a quick google "fake sata raid ubuntu"):
