    Gutsy into Toshiba Satellite A110

    Greetings folks, K-Ubuntu newbie here.

I'm planning on installing 7.10 into a Toshiba Satellite A110 laptop, dual boot with XP. I've taken a look at some of the other appropriate posts (good information, I hope).

I would really appreciate sound advice on what I need to install this as well as what pitfalls to avoid.

    Happy New year, all.

How to dual boot Windows XP and Linux (XP installed first)

Be prepared to have problems with working sound. Sound and laptops in Linux appear to be a regular issue. It was/is with mine (Toshiba Satellite P105-S6147). I get it to work by disabling ACPI support (adding the kernel option acpi=off in the /boot/grub/menu.lst file).

A quick Forum search for "Toshiba A110" finds Toshiba Satellite Laptop Success Story posted by calgarystevens - "I'm using a Toshiba Satellite A110-ST111 laptop ..."

And, welcome to the Kubuntu Forums!

      Thanks much.

I did see (and printed) that particular posting. When I looked at Kubuntu as livecd I already noted the sound deficiency ... mere R&D.

      Thanks for the advice, though.

      Cheers
