Adept - error installing libqt3-mt updates

    Hi all.

Got Adept errors when updating libqt3-mt for Gutsy clean install.

    Details as follows:

. Did clean Gutsy install using the defaults from the Live CD
    . Updated kernels via Adept
. Did update for latest Gutsy libqt3-mt, kdelibs4c2a & kdesudo (latest updates displayed via adept) and got the following error messages:

    Code:
    Setting up libqt3-mt (3:3.3.8really3.3.7-0ubuntu11.1) ...

    Configuration file `/etc/qt3/qt_plugins_3.3rc'
==> File on system created by you or by a script.
==> File also in package provided by package maintainer.
What would you like to do about it ? Your options are:
      Y or I : install the package maintainer's version
      N or O : keep your currently-installed version
D : show the differences between the versions
Z : background this process to examine the situation
The default action is to keep your current version.
    *** qt_plugins_3.3rc (Y/I/N/O/D/Z) [default=N] ? dpkg: error processing libqt3-mt (--configure):
EOF on stdin at conffile prompt
    Tried to use
    Code:
    sudo dpkg --configure -a
    to get around the problem.
    Got the same prompt.

So I have related dependency problems due to the partly toasted libqt3-mt (kdelibs4c2a et al).

    Questions:

. I presume its ok to select "Y" when prompted by dpkg?
    Then rerun
    Code:
    sudo dpkg --configure -a[
. It appears to be an Adept bug? Does anyone know whether it been reported yet.
. qt4 is also installed. is this normal within a gutsy standard clean install?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

    Andy

Re: Adept - error installing libqt3-mt updates

I don't think that is a "dependency" problem, actually. Possibly it's seeing two versions, one on your CD or your system and one in the repo -- perhaps the one from the CD is actually a little newer. If you open Adept Manager>Manage Repositories, and click the "Third Party" tab, highlight your installation CD and then "Remove" it, it will stop looking there for packages, and limit the search to the repos.

In any event, if your system is running OK, probably you'll be wise to keep the installed version, rather than change it.

Re: Adept - error installing libqt3-mt updates

      Hi dibl

      Thanks for your reply.

Actually I downloaded the "troublesome" update for libqt3-mt from the official Kubuntu updates repos, (having been prompted by Adept Update), not from any other source. The only other (original) version installed would be from the Live CD. So I presume the one in the repo's was newer, not older.

The version in question appears to be 3.3.3.8Really3.3.3.7-0ubuntu11.1 (according to Adept).
I presume it is presently installed & not configured.

The error message(s) occurred when Adept/dpkg tried to install the update.
Now any program that depends on kde/qt will not install/configure properly when I update it (eg. Open Office).

Hence I presume it would be better to "Accept the package maintainer's version", ie the version from the repos? Else i cannot install any other kde/qt dependent software!

      Many thanks

      Andy

Re: Adept - error installing libqt3-mt updates

On the rare occasion that I've seen this, I've always accepted the default option, which is to hit Enter and "keep your current version." So far, I haven't been hurt doing so.

Well, if Open Office isn't updating, that's a bad thing .... prolly better go ahead and "accept the package maintainer's version".

I'll be praying to the little monkey-god ....

            Hi Snowdog, dibl.

Have configured libqt3-mt using "accept the package maintainer's version".
It appears to be fine so far. So i'll cross all six toes on each foot and keep praying to the correct gods for this type of thing

Many thanks for your help & suggestions.

Compliments of the season as well.

Yep, I'm convinced that "new installation" is actually simpler, in the long run, but it should not be that way!
