    Boot problems

    Hello,
I decided to try finally try out kubuntu, however I am having some serious trouble getting the live cds to work. I've done the md5sum check and a verify after burning the images. I also burned the the dvds(i had to use dvds instead of cds since my cds were returning errors) at 1x.

When I put the dvd into my laptop it gets to the boot screen from which I can select the various options. When I do the cd check or try to start kubuntu it loads the kernel and then goes to the loading screen.
The bar will go about 3/4 of the way and then freeze. If I don't force a shut down the computer eventually turns itself off.
When I tried the same dvd on a friend's computer it worked fine.

The problem I am having with my desktop is that it does not even recognize that the dvd is in the drive.

Any suggestions as to how I can fix this? I would love to be able to try out kubuntu.

Btw, I have also tried ubuntu, but it caused the same problem.

I'm running windows vista on my laptop with 1 gig of ram, and xp on my desktop with also 1 gig of ram.

    Thank you

    Re: Boot problems

It sounds like your drives do not like the weight of the disks you are trying to use since you are burning at slow speeds.
Try if possible a disk made by another manufacturer.

Try a Verbatim CD-R (not RW) and burn at 12x-15x or so.
