    xorg.conf question

I installed Gutsy Gibbon a few days ago, and I wanted to ask why my xorg.conf in the section "module" it only loads "glx", I remember when I used Feisty and Debian this section had more things in there. Also in section "files" Here is my xorg.conf

    Re: xorg.conf question

You are correct that the default Kubuntu xorg.conf file will have more commented introductory stuff. But, to answer your question, you obviously used Nvidia's "nvidia-xconfig" utility to write a new xorg.conf for your 8600GT, and it only writes what it needs to function correctly.

How is your 8600GT working? Since you have glx and compositing enabled, are you using compiz? Every once in awhile I get tempted to buy one of the new 8000-series cards, although my 7900GS works just fine.

      Here is my "Module" section:
      Section "Module"
      Load "dbe"
      # Load "dri"
      Load "extmod"
      # Load "GLcore"
      Load "glx"
      Load "record"
      Load "xtrap"
      EndSection
If everything's working right, you probably don't need to adjust it any (I did to get my mouse driver to work). If you're running Compiz, you might want to check out Compiz' documentation on Nvidia cards (just skip the Nvidia driver installation section).

Everything works fine for me, I just wanted to know if it was normal to have only glx in the section module. Do you think I should leave like that or add more things?

            Re: xorg.conf question

When you reconfigure your xorg.conf file with "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" (+/- "-phigh"), it generally only seems to load the "glx" module, any others you wish to load, you have to do so manually. I would say that you don't need to do anything else to your configuration; CF (Compiz-Fusion), however, "might" run slightly smoother for you if you make Compiz' suggested changes to the file. I modified my xorg.conf according to their suggestions just for the heck of it, and it has seemed to run somewhat better for me since (although, the performance increase may also be largely due to the updates *buntu has released). I dunno If you're not very familiar with messing around with Xorg, I'd say go for it (It's good to learn new things)! The changes shouldn't hurt anything, but if something goes wrong, we'll be here to back you up
