Has anybody had the courage to try this? I'm really anxious to use KDE 4, but I'd like to know if RC1 seems stable enough.

Re: KDE RC 1
Thanks for the release schedule. I think I can wait about 15 days. Do you know if Kubuntu team will release packages that will do the 3.5.8 replacement instead of doing the integration ones self? At least during all the releases it looked as though you had to manually move it.

Re: KDE RC 1
Old Gutsy plans say:
KubuntuGutsyPlan
https://wiki.kubuntu.org/KubuntuGutsyPlan
KDE 4
Keep packaging KDE 4 releases as they are made. The target release for Gutsy should be KDE 4.0 rc 2. Packages will need to still be installed into /usr/lib/kde4 unless there are improvements upstream with renaming kdelibs binaries or moving them to libexec. Qt 4.3 is expected around July which makes it fit into the Gutsy release schedule nicely. If it is delayed we should request an upstream version freeze as it is required by KDE 4. KDE 4.0 final is due to be released one week after Gutsy, we should make packages available on the day of release and create an unsupported remastered Gutsy Live CD with the KDE 4 packages hosted on kubuntu.org.
We should set the local KDE configuration files directory to ~/.kde4 at compile time to stop it overwriting KDE 3 configuration without an environment variable needing to be set. We should add /usr/lib/kde4 to the PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH in KDE 3 sessions to make KDE 4 apps easy to run on KDE 3.
That was before KDE 4.0 release schedule revision
KubuntuHardyKde4 plans say:
https://wiki.kubuntu.org/KubuntuHardyKde4
KDE 4 packages are available with selected modules supported as default. CDs are available for those who prefer a complete KDE 4 environment without LTS.
Do you know if Kubuntu team will release packages that will do the 3.5.8 replacement instead of doing the integration ones self?
My uneducated quess is that no.Before you edit, BACKUP !

Re: KDE RC 1
I tried the live CD of Kubuntu with KDE 4.0 RC1 and well.. the desktop looked pretty until I tried to use it.
Hate to be a rainy cloud but how on earth can this be considered a Release Candidate? I didn't get to play with many of the features yet but just opening a few windows made things get ugly..
Here's hoping they are working their tired butts off. I'm really looking forward to what KDE4.0 could be.. just hope I don't have my hopes set too high.

Re: KDE RC 1
They pushed the release back to 11 Jan 08. Which anyone who has installed KDE4 RC1 has to agree is a good decision... possibly 11 Feb 08 might be more realistic... not that I'm an expert...

I'm SO tempted to make an install of it and "watch" the progress... but I just know I'd bugger my system and I need it to work.
