First, I would like to say that there is not one feature of this laptop that does not work under Kubuntu 7.10. 
Even the supplied remote works with Amarok
So if you are looking for a laptop to work under linux 100% w/o any tinkering with drivers this is the one.
Second, I would like to ask the forum if I could get some pointers on how to get the Kubuntu boot splash screen to display properly on the widescreen display. As of now it is stretched as it seems to be designed for 4:3 screens.
