Re: Dual boot grub - solved

It had to be just two small letters missing.

    I had "rootverify"

For NTFS it has to be "rootnoverify."

Thanks to all - and obviously Qqmike in particular - for keeping my spirits up here.

I've solved a problem, I've learnt a lot, and my experimental PC is now dual boot.

    Edit:

The "hal-storage-fixed-mount-all-options refused uid 1000" problem is NTFS. It should be there in 7.10, but I follewd the advice to install ntfs-configure, and then use it and System settings - Advanced - File System to do the rest.

Oh, thank goodness you got it!
And thank goodness I didn't mis-type that word for you! (I lucked out there!)

On the upside, you have a jump start on being a GRUB expert here, at least at the same level that I and others are working at, a practical user's level.

Congratulations on your hard work and attention to such detail!

I just posted a different message, but deleted as you have had success. Good one and congrats

Lessons learned – I see that you did post your new menu.lst. I was so focused on getting that map dance right, I missed the rootverify, too. Geez, sorry about that, and the lesson there is clear to both of us. Can I blame this on my age and these $10 no-name reading glasses I get from Walgreen’s?

I must admit I missed that as well. Maybe a lobotomy will do the trick

You don't have to - I'm perfectly capable of making my own mis-typings. 8)
